Does every DVD offer a progressive scan option?

As I understand progressive scan. The DVD image is played back at 24 frames per second rather than 60 fields per second for regular NTSC video.

How important is this feature when purchasing a DVD Player?

I guess I'll answer my own question. The progressive scan only works on HI-Def television monitors that output either 1040 or 700plus lines.

My final bit of research I've discovered that using a progressive scan DVD Player on a non-HD/Progressive scan Television will produce an inferior result to a "plain" DVD player.

So the rule of thumb is only buy a progressive scan DVD if your television will playback progessive scan.

I have a hi def tv (36" direct view) and a progressive scan player...I'll tell you, the progressive scan is supposed to make the image more filmlike, and reportedly on big screen tvs it does, but on my conventional size hi def tv, I saw virtually no difference...my tv's picture enhancing circuitry does such a good job with the picture, it matched what the progressive scan would do. I suppose the only way to tell would be a side by side comparison.
